Meditation as your medication

We all stuggle to meditate right at the very beginning and unless you were a monk in the womb, you’ve probably found meditating time consuming, ‘boring’ and difficult. Here are my top tips for really putting in the effort and making the most of those 5-10 minutes of pure bliss.

Airpods/headphones

These will really help too tune into a guided meditation and block out any outside noise. If you’re like me and you live in a city- you’ll need some head phones. Amps up the experience 100%.

YouTube

Youtube has it all. I love Bob Baker and Jason Stephenson. Both have soft, soothing voices and shorter videos which is less intimidating as you are starting out. Their voices make me really happy.

A blanket/comfortable clothes

Wrap anything you like around you. Sit on your couch, bedroom floor etc and just get comfortable. Whatever floats your boat- works.

Diffuse or put on something that smells good/relaxes you

If some peppermint or lavender oil on your body lets you know its time to slow down/meditate- do that

Attempt to practice first thing in the morning

This is a major one. If we leave this until later in the day, I personally find that post looking at screens/ being at work I have so much more on my mind and it’s alot harder to detach these thoughts. The less stimulated we are when we first sit down to make the most of being in the moment- the better.

It’s a journey thats for sure. No one is perfect or a professional. But there are so many scientifically proven benefits to meditating daily, no matter how small. Reading is also great for practicing to be in the moment.
