1 Week of getting up before 6am

With the ‘new year, new me’ theme I think we all want to do better and work on self improvement. I’ve seen and read a lot lately about the magic of mornings– I totally get it. It’s discipline at the very start of your day, you have more time on your hands and well we feel crap when we toss and turn and prolong our time in bed. So this week I have challenged myself to getting up before 6am everyday. I wouldn’t say that I am generally someone that ‘sleeps in’ as is- maybe 7am would be my rough wake up time daily, but I do really want to get into routine of getting MORE out of my days(plus I love an early night- 8.30pm + buenas noches)

MONDAY AKA DAY 1:

This morning I set my alarm for 5.58am(starting small lol) but I recently got a fitbit(highly recommend) so I used this as my alarm as I really don’t enjoy sleeping with my phone in my room. Fitbits have this feature where if you wake within a 30min time frame of your alarm going off, it will wake you up(makes sense). My partner was up at 5.30am therefore I was up at that time too. It is already light in QLD at that time in the summer so there really should be no excuses when it comes to removing myself from my bed(the comfort thoooo). First absolute pro of the morning: a ripper sunrise from my bedroom window- theres that morning magic I have heard so much about! Worth the early start. I then made myself a lemon and ginger water(meant to be a wonderful mucus dissolvent), did a 50minute yoga practice(I am generally more of a 15-20 minute morning yoga person- but this felt amazing). I meditated for 10 minutes, again this is the longest meditation I have done in the past few weeks, made myself an iced oat latte(drool), journaled + I am now adding to my blog. All by 8am! I really don’t ever have to rush in the mornings but I don’t like it when I do and today is not one of those days(plus its my Sunday woohoo).

Thoughts/feelings:

  • I always feel really energized and pumped for the week on Monday mornings, but today I feel extra good
  • Feeling extra productive, about to go to a PT session and feeling super alert
  • Don’t feel like I need as much coffee
  • Great start to my week

TUESDAY:

I woke with some pretty nasty period pains. Was awake before 6 but I absolutely stayed in bed another hour. The last thing I felt like doing though was moving my body, so I listened to it. Will try to be a little more active later on. But as for now- tomorrow is a new day!

  • Crampy
  • Haven’t had a coffee
  • Went to sleep last night feeling really rested after having an early morning

WEDNESDAY:

Back to it. Was up at 5.30 and felt excited about it. Have realized it really doesn’t take much to physically just get out of bed. And once you’re up- you’re up!

  • Alert
  • Sleeping better of a nighttime, feeling even more exhausted by 8.30pm LOL

THURSDAY:

This morning it was super easy to get up. I drew back my blinds and having natural light really helps me to feel alive. I sat and journaled and listened to the birds sing and the sun rise behind the tallest building in Brisbane- it was really beautiful. I am also loving the peacefulness of mornings, its so quiet- not that I have a busy household at all! Lol

  • Energized
  • Noticed that I would need to be in bed by 9.30 to make 5.30am achievable for me to get up in the mornings
  • Light
  • Productive

FRIDAY:

Had a later night as I had a big day at work but was still asleep just after 10(late for me). Was still up at 5.30 and didn’t really consider going back to sleep which is cool- 5 mornings in and I’m feeling like I am in a better routine and like my body clock has altered.

  • Happy its almost the end of my working week
  • Not feeling tired at all
  • Like there is a lot more time in the mornings, I haven’t rushed out my apartment door once(this rarely happens anyway- but to totally deter it- wake earlier)
  • Sleeping well, have been reading prior to sleep which would be benefiting my sleep I can imagine

SATURDAY:

Today will be my last day of the week getting up at this time. But will absolutely be implementing a 5.30am wake up to most of my mornings during the week. I worked out for longer and looked forward to it. I saw gorgeous sunrises every morning. And I felt really accomplished as soon as I woke! Sunday/hungover mornings will be a different story for sure- but for the most part being up at 5.30am is 100% worth it.

21 Things I learnt in 2020

If you’ve learnt zilch this year…. where have you been? Talk about a year of discomfort and uh learning things.

PATIENCE

Coming in hot at no.1. We’ve all had to be patient in a sense this year. Whether its been waiting to hear back about job applications, from your insurance company that “had you covered” on that 2020 trip of a lifetime or standing on those little red crosses at grocery stores. Life’s been a little slower. But hey, they say “patience is a virtue”. Most probably not the worst trait to have.

A SMOOTHIE A DAY

You can basically put anything in the world in a smoothie and make it work. They are generally packed full of goodness, hydrating and easy to consume when you’re getting ready for work. Greens powders as well are incredible and play a massive role in general health I feel! Best way to start a summer day after a sweaty workout.

THE THINGS WE FEEL LIKE DOING THE LEAST- ARE GENERALLY THE THINGS WE SHOULD DO

“I don’t have time to meditate”, *said person complains about back tightness, doesn’t do anything for back tightness*, “I need to make that appointment- but I’ll do it next week”. We are all guilty of putting things off or dreading a task but I guess this is where discipline comes into play. A massive one is stopping, breathing and chilling out when we feel rushed, anxious and overwhelmed. It is what our bodies are telling us to do.

ALWAYS HAVE A BOOK ON THE GO

Seeing this book around your living space, reminds us that there are other things we can be doing than scrolling. Even if its just a couple of pages here and there- it’s so much better than nothing! And on this note, reading is SO much more enjoyable when you have selected the book yourself/like what the author has to say et, otherwise- can be such a drag!

KNOW YOUR SELF WORTH

It seems like we all need to be reminded of this sometimes- isn’t that crazy?! We should never not have our own backs. Life is too short to spend our precious time w shitty people πŸ™‚ Revaluate, stand up for self and do yo own thing πŸ™‚

MONEY DOESN’Y BUY HAPPINESS, BUT IT DOES GIVE US MORE FREEDOM

It really is so true. When we have freedom we have more room/option/leeway to do what we want to do. To more stable incomes in 2020, taking on all of the sides hustles and worrying less about money because lets face it: its exhausting.

LULU OVER ANYTHING

The best workout gear ever. I knew this already but so worth the hype + price tag. It pays to be comfy/like the way you look/feel when sweating balls. It makes you want to do it more!

SOMEONE ELSE ALWAYS HAS IT WORSE

V true. I know that my fellow Australian’s reading this will agree. Talk about hitting the jackpot residing in Australia during all of this. (Most of us) have had room to move + BREATHE. I’ll never get over how underpopulated Aus is compared to other countries, I just bloody love it. Whenever I am feeling sorry for myself I remind myself where I am living and it changes my mindset instantly. Anway just pays to be nice to people bc we never know what someone else is going through.

SPOTIFY IS THE BEST AP ON THIS PLANET

Couldn’t live without it. Podcasts, playlists for every event/mood/genre + ‘wrapped’ playlists put together this time of year. Use it all the time. Thanks for letting me use your account Maxi, hehe.

NEVER TAKE ANY TRIP FOR GRANTED

I’d like to think I never did BUT even weekends away, flying domestically etc are all such special memories and moments! Grateful for the travel i’ve been lucky enough to do as well as the travel that will happen in future Tully’s life!

MEXICAN ALWAYS

I probably have Mexican inspired food too many times per week but it is such an easy cuisine to whip up. Beans will last in your pantry forever, there’s always some kind of vegetable in your fridge(fingers crossed) and did someone say hot sauce?! YUM.

WE ALL NEED TO PUT OUR PHONES DOWN MORE

I feel horrible at the end of the day if I’ve been a hungover piece of shit and scrolled my way through the day. It actually gets us no where. I also find it super unattractive if you’re in a group setting and someone is constantly staring at their screen, antisocial much? Set a screen time limit, have self control and even turn your phone off if need be. They’re so addictive its crazy.

TOMORROW ISNT PROMISED

Literally. We all need to stop and appreciate that we are here more. It keeps us grounded.

YOU CAN’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR

Case is point: Rona. The news. The media. Facebook. Gossip from people around you etc. We can’t take any of it for gospel. We need to do our own research and have our own beliefs. Too much mumbo jumbo is thrown around and we need to take things people tell us w a grain of salt.

MOON CUPS

Should have surfaced ages ago, love them!

DIFFUSERS ARE THE BOMB

Lavender, peppermint, onguard… mmmm! The best way to start the day/wind down at night.

BARISTA MADE COFFEE COSTS YOU $1,200 ANUALLY

Buy a coffee machine, pronto.

ORGANISED MAKEUP= ORGANISED LIFE

Putting makeup and brushes in jars/containers so they are accessible is a game changer. Makes life so much easier.

YOUTUBE HAS IT ALL

I’ve never realised how great of a tool YouTube is. Workout vids, meditations, apartment cleaning playlists, Spanish classes, travel vlogs, manifestation chats etc. Learn something from YouTube today!

SMILE AT SOMEONE EVEN IF YOU KNOW THEY WON’T SMILE BACK

It’s not you- it’s them! I’m sure its appreciated πŸ™‚

CALL YOUR PARENTS/GRANDPARENTS

It makes their day and takes 10mins out of yours! Do it.

What have you learnt this year? I recently learnt that learnt: English + learned: American/Canadian. Lol

Who knows what next year will have in store for us, but I do know that we are going into 2021 more resilient. We will be in control and more prepared for what is yet to come. Here’s to great health, secure wealth and being surrounded by our wonderful friends and family! We’ve got this in the bag. πŸ™‚

This little thing called life

Life is a wild ride. How many of us have looked up to our parents/people of age when we were younger and thought that ‘they have it all together’. Yeah right, none of us do. This seems to become so much clearer as we get older. Isn’t it funny we just assume with age we’ll ‘sort our lives out’. True to an extent, but I truly do believe we are constantly learning, growing, evolving and changing- and if we aren’t, surely we can’t be living correctly.

On the topic of age and growth, how’s the pressure as we mature? On both sexes. To buy property, have a mortgage, have a stable vehicle, be in a relationship and everything that comes with that(marriage, starting a family etc), oh and career- because every human on this earth will have the same job in the same field for 50 years… yeah right. I personally haven’t felt a crazy amount of pressure as my fam are the bee’s knees and so supportive. But I honestly dread the pressure and questions that are to come as the years pass. The pressure on women especially- to start a family before 30. In my mind 30 is SO YOUNG. 30 years of living(fingers crossed) isn’t even half of our lives!

When I think of purpose, being a mum really isn’t something that springs to mind. Mum’s are EASILY some of the most caring, unselfish, protective and nurturing people on earth; and they do such an unreal job. But I don’t think that is the only reason most females are earthbound. I do see the appeal, but I agree with most women that it ‘comes with age’. It takes so bloody long to figure ourselves out let alone understand our moral compass and values to want to pass on to tiny humans. But then again, when are we ever ready? When is the right time? At what ripe age will we ‘figure ourselves out’? Will we ever? Probably not, and that’s okay. We’re human. And figuring our shit out is all part of this journey.

I’ve found myself reconsidering the questions I ask people when I first meet them. ‘What do you do for work?’ is something that simply doesn’t matter all that much. This is generally something I’ll ask later on in the conversation if it comes up. I feel as though it can make us uncomfortable. Why is that? Why can we feel so un-proud when answering this? As if we were to think the person receiving the answer is about to stereotype or judge. When most of us love/have passion and experience/are really good at what we do! It’s mind boggling! I very rarely see people answer this question with confidence, myself included. I think we all need to change our perspective(+ how we answer this!) just slightly. We should be PROUD of our achievements! And work is one of them lol.

15 or 55, none of us have it entirely together + we can all learn something from one another. Lets reword the questions we ask.

DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP but food for thought. Could I have put any more question marks throughout this blog? Hehe. Have a lovely Thursday!
