Rewiring our thoughts

We hear time and time again that our brains are plastic and can be changed/molded/altered at any stage. We are the only ones in charge of this. And by constantly repeating certain movments, thinking certain thoughts, spending time with certain people etc- our brains begin to be molded. You don’t have to spend too long with someone to start using their mannerisms, speaking the way that they speak etc. It’s incredible really.

When we think to ourselves, ‘I’m broke’, ‘I don’t have enough money’… how do we feel after that thought? Far from wealthy.

What about when we tell ourselves, ‘I’m unintelligent’, how do we feel… not smart thats for sure.

It’s pretty insane the impact that these daily thoughts have on us over our lifespan. This is why I truly think if you’re spending time with people that are contantly picking at your flaws, we start to believe them, even when they weren’t something that we were insecure about in the first place! Our thoughts have SO much control.

I remember being an 18y/o and looking in the mirror, thinking to myself ‘I’m just a bigger girl, its the way I am, I accept it’ thinking back to this it makes me SO SAD. Firstly it was so untrue, secondly I wonder if this was I statement I came up with or if it was almost offered to me when I was younger. Thirdly, self pity does nothing for us. I was absolutely not super over weight anyway, chubby sure. But what even is chubby, what is a bigger girl? Labels get us no where. Drinking too many sugary alcoholic beverages, over indulging all too often, big portions, very rarely moving my body is probably why I felt the way I did. I wasn’t doing anything to make myself feel like a healthy human being- thats for sure.

When you make it an effort to meal prep, eat colourful foods and stay hydrated, you become someone that cares about what you put in your body

When you make the effort to go for a run, you become a runner

When you start to pick up a book before bed and read a few pages, you become a reader

Tell yourselves these things. Celebrate them.

‘We are what we eat, the company we keep + the thoughts we think’… πŸ™‚

Lets catch ourselves out next time we have something unconstructive to say about overselves, because hey, this is something we all struggle with! Catch you self doubt.

Loooooove. To a wonderful week. Tully x

5 Recomendations for Cairns

Here are 5 things I LOVED doing in one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations:

Eat at Salt House

We had the most amazing dinner here one night. The atmosphere, service and food was incredible. Everything I put in my mouth was so delicious. If you’re into seafood, this is the place!

Drive up to Kuranda

There are a few alternate options in terms of getting to Kuranda. There is a goldola, train or you can drive. We chose to drive and the 40 minute commute was unreal. There was so much to look at along the highway, everything was so lush- the whole experience was just devine. We walked around Kuranda town, there is a butterfly farm and famous markets but we were too late for both unfortunately. Next time. We did have a good amount of time at Barron falls though and highly reccomend. Cairns has alot of rain throughout the year but in January it was FLOWING, probably the biggest waterfall i’ve seen with my own eyes. Such a fun, nature filled and inexpensive day!

Visit Rusty’s markets

You can’t visit Cairns without attending Rusty’s. Its such a great market in the heart of town with an ABUNDANCE of amazing produce. It’s limitless what the locals can grow up in the FNQ area. I think they call this the golden triangle? It’s cheap, a great atmosphere, the food is amazing(visit the vietnamese stall- yum) AND they have the tastiest V GF DF banana bread. A friend raved about this so had to try, can confirm- scrumptious.

Swim at Babinda Boulders

This was probably my favourite swimming spot I had the pleasure of visiting in the Cairns area. We’ve all seen photos of these rock pools online somewhere. And I must say I thought they looked pretty different to what I was expecting, but SO beautiful none the less. I guess with the climate in Cairns and the wild weather they experience these places probably always seem a little different! Which is a bonus. Th water is so clear, very refreshing and the perfect place for a picnic!

Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef

No matter what it costs or what the weather is doing for the day, get out on the reef. You travel for about 2 hours to get to snorkel/scuba locations but just being out on the water is pure MAGIC. There are so many colours, species of fish and it is all round such a great day. I loved it and would go out 100 times over. The food was so good on the boat also. Remember: suncreen.

Woah writing this makes me want to move up north… what a gorgeous adventure filled area of Australia! Can’t wait to visit again. To a wonderful week x

6 Things to do on Stradbroke Island

Only a 40 minute drive from Brisbane to Cleveland(where you catch the ferry/barge to Dunwich) then onto a 45 minute ferry, its all too easy! Such an accessible little get away from Brisbane and surrounding areas. All you could need on an island- gorgeous walks and sunsets, bars and cafes, bottle shops(ofc) and so much wildlife. Do yourself a favour. Enjoy!

  1. NORTH GORGE WALK

This coastal walk only takes roughly 30minutes to complete but oh so worth it. A decent walk with a few stairs involved but breath taking and many whales and dolphins to be spotted!

2. SPEND THE DAY AT CYLINDER BEACH

This beach is gorgeous. The tides were quite high when we visited which created a lagoon in front of the shore which was perfect for wallowing in and keeping cool whilst having a beer in hand. Sunshine, salty air, beach snacks and beverages. The perfect way to spend any day in my opinion!

3. EAT AND DRINK(AND TOGA) AT STRADDIE BEACH CLUB RESORT

Try the Mai Tai’s and Brisket pizza. Soooo tasty and drinks are reasonably priced. Try to get here before sunset, also ripper view to be taken in.

4. WATCH THE SUNSET AT AMITY POINT

Super lovely way to end the day. Busy little area right near a camp ground. We saw a few dolphins here too. Straddie is riddled with wildlife.

5. HAVE A MORNING YOGA BEACH SESH

Ahhhhh is there anything like a relaxing stretch on the softest sand in the world? Unlikely. The best way to start a great day.

6. SPEND A FEW NIGHTS

If you can! It’s worth it. A day trip will suffice for sure but Straddie has lots to offer. I think a week would be too long personally- but depends what your after!

So lucky to live in QLD and have these slices of paradise a hop, skip and jump away. Get to Straddie this summer and help out the local business’ that need your support!
