6 Recommendations for Airlie Beach!

I recently had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Whitsunday’s! What an area. It really is more beautiful than you could imagine, I hope my iPhone 8 pics do it justice! Here are my top 6 recommendations for Airlie Beach(where we stayed)!

  1. GET ON A BOAT

Any boat! We used the company ‘ocean rafting’ and hands down that’d be the best tour I’ve been on. They were knowledgeable, professional and most importantly- fun! Our tour took us the the hill inlet hike (roughly 20 mins up + 15 mins down) that has a viewpoint of the delicious swirls of Whitehaven beach! There were barely any other people there- it was amazing! We then sank a few drinks at Whitehaven, the weather was perfect as well as the water crystal clear and sand snow white. The silica sits at 98.9%, therefor is the highest/purest sand in the world! After we had lunch on the island(which is included) we cruised over to the first reef and snorkelled for roughly 45 mins- it was incredible, the colours, the fish, the peacefulness. We then hit one more snorkel spot before we cruised home and were home by 3.30PM! This is a must and only set us back $160. A whole day of fun for that price, sign me up!

2. HAVE A DRINK(OR 10) AT NORTHERLIES BAR AND GRILL

This lil beauty even has a courtesy bus to take you on the 20 minute drive out of town. Sitting at Northerlies made myself and my friends feel like we were overseas! Think south east Asia vibes with Australian prices haha. The seafood platter there is OUT OF THIS WORLD(found a new love for sashimi) and the cocktails are most likely the best I’ve ever had. The bar still feels really ruggared but super tropical at the same time. Try the ‘Yu gizz’, amazeeeeee.

3. GO SKYDIVING

I was delightfully shook/scared/crazy excited to find out that my partner had surprised me with skydiving for my birthday YaHoOoOooOo. Best part was that 5 of my friends I was in Airlie with signed up also and WE ALL SKYDIVED TOGETHER! ThE coOlEsT eXpEriEnCe!!!!! Would absolutely do this again. Airlie beach is stunning via land but you get a whole new perspective for the area from above!

4. VISIT CORAL BEACH

This is a 15 minute walk through the rainforest to end up at a beautiful quiet beach made of, you guessed it… coral! Would say this is possibly more of a ‘local’ secret but so worth the venture! The clearest water and zero crows. Pack a picnic and take snorkel gear!

5. SPEND THE DAY AT THE LAGOON

The lagoon is right in town and there is room for everyone. Airlie area is a known home for stingers(jellyfish) at certain times of the year, so having the lagoon right in the village centre is ideal. You can take some food down, tan and lax. Its so lovely down there. PS: there’s also a designated pool for the kids ha yay!

6. EAT/TRY/ATTEMPT ALL OF THE SEAFOOD

You are absolutely spoilt for selection of seafood in a place like the Whitsundays. Its all so fresh and beautiful. You pay for it for sure, but worth every cent! I liked seafood at Northerlies, Fish D’vine or the supplier Fishi! One day we bought our own and sat on our killer balcony(Marina shores! The best accom in Airlie) taking in the marina whilst devouring crustaceans and it was perfecto.

Its such a wonderful time up north! Zero international tourists so barely any busyness to put up with, it was fabulous! October is also a great month to visit! Enjoy FNQ x
