1 Week of getting up before 6am

With the ‘new year, new me’ theme I think we all want to do better and work on self improvement. I’ve seen and read a lot lately about the magic of mornings– I totally get it. It’s discipline at the very start of your day, you have more time on your hands and well we feel crap when we toss and turn and prolong our time in bed. So this week I have challenged myself to getting up before 6am everyday. I wouldn’t say that I am generally someone that ‘sleeps in’ as is- maybe 7am would be my rough wake up time daily, but I do really want to get into routine of getting MORE out of my days(plus I love an early night- 8.30pm + buenas noches)

MONDAY AKA DAY 1:

This morning I set my alarm for 5.58am(starting small lol) but I recently got a fitbit(highly recommend) so I used this as my alarm as I really don’t enjoy sleeping with my phone in my room. Fitbits have this feature where if you wake within a 30min time frame of your alarm going off, it will wake you up(makes sense). My partner was up at 5.30am therefore I was up at that time too. It is already light in QLD at that time in the summer so there really should be no excuses when it comes to removing myself from my bed(the comfort thoooo). First absolute pro of the morning: a ripper sunrise from my bedroom window- theres that morning magic I have heard so much about! Worth the early start. I then made myself a lemon and ginger water(meant to be a wonderful mucus dissolvent), did a 50minute yoga practice(I am generally more of a 15-20 minute morning yoga person- but this felt amazing). I meditated for 10 minutes, again this is the longest meditation I have done in the past few weeks, made myself an iced oat latte(drool), journaled + I am now adding to my blog. All by 8am! I really don’t ever have to rush in the mornings but I don’t like it when I do and today is not one of those days(plus its my Sunday woohoo).

Thoughts/feelings:

  • I always feel really energized and pumped for the week on Monday mornings, but today I feel extra good
  • Feeling extra productive, about to go to a PT session and feeling super alert
  • Don’t feel like I need as much coffee
  • Great start to my week

TUESDAY:

I woke with some pretty nasty period pains. Was awake before 6 but I absolutely stayed in bed another hour. The last thing I felt like doing though was moving my body, so I listened to it. Will try to be a little more active later on. But as for now- tomorrow is a new day!

  • Crampy
  • Haven’t had a coffee
  • Went to sleep last night feeling really rested after having an early morning

WEDNESDAY:

Back to it. Was up at 5.30 and felt excited about it. Have realized it really doesn’t take much to physically just get out of bed. And once you’re up- you’re up!

  • Sleeping better of a nighttime, feeling even more exhausted by 8.30pm LOL

THURSDAY:

This morning it was super easy to get up. I drew back my blinds and having natural light really helps me to feel alive. I sat and journaled and listened to the birds sing and the sun rise behind the tallest building in Brisbane- it was really beautiful. I am also loving the peacefulness of mornings, its so quiet- not that I have a busy household at all! Lol

  • Energized
  • Noticed that I would need to be in bed by 9.30 to make 5.30am achievable for me to get up in the mornings
  • Light
  • Productive

FRIDAY:

Had a later night as I had a big day at work but was still asleep just after 10(late for me). Was still up at 5.30 and didn’t really consider going back to sleep which is cool- 5 mornings in and I’m feeling like I am in a better routine and like my body clock has altered.

  • Happy its almost the end of my working week
  • Not feeling tired at all
  • Like there is a lot more time in the mornings, I haven’t rushed out my apartment door once(this rarely happens anyway- but to totally deter it- wake earlier)
  • Sleeping well, have been reading prior to sleep which would be benefiting my sleep I can imagine

SATURDAY:

Today will be my last day of the week getting up at this time. But will absolutely be implementing a 5.30am wake up to most of my mornings during the week. I worked out for longer and looked forward to it. I saw gorgeous sunrises every morning. And I felt really accomplished as soon as I woke! Sunday/hungover mornings will be a different story for sure- but for the most part being up at 5.30am is 100% worth it.
